The Art of the Drum Solo is a DVD produced by Bellydance Superstar Sonia and drummer Issam Houshan. It is about an hour-long workout, drill, and combination DVD.

The warm-up is not too intense, but does function as a good stretching, so I do it very often, even when I choose not to work with the entire DVD.

The drills are somewhat challenging for a beginner, but intermediate dancers will feel right at home.

Finally, the combinations are somewhat interesting and different. You can see her entire performance, which inspired this DVD, on youtube.

Tribal Drum Solo Choreography is a video packed with information as well as a healthy dose of humor, particularly in the introduction. The warm-up is somewhat challenging but should be suited for dancers of all levels. The choreography is easy to learn but also easily modified to make it more challenging or interesting for an advanced dancer.

Rachel Brice’s Tribal Fusion Belly Dance: Yoga Isolations and Drills for Bellydance is a DVD with a lot of bang over little content.

The DVD begins with a few intermediate yoga poses, including locust pose and sun salutations, and quickly moves on to belly dance drills. The movements come quickly and are tricky to begin with, but soon develop into natural-feeling movements and undulations.

Rachel Brice is an excellent dancer and instructor and practicing with the video feels like having her in your living room. Be sure to mind the correct posture.

This video is not meant for beginners, but if you have a grasp of the movements to begin with, this video will be perfect for drilling some more advanced technique.

Rachel Brice: Bellydance Arms and Posture

Bellydance Arms and Posture with Rachel Brice is a DVD which comes in a few sections. The first important section is the instruction set, which lasts close to an hour. Also included is a few-minute-long interview during which Rachel discusses her outfit and where she makes some of her great finds. Finally is a typically-choppy performance with many different camera angles, which is meant to impress and certainly meets its goal.

The instruction set is chock full of useful exercises for strengthening the arms and increasing flexibility and also educates the viewer on how to use arms more gracefully. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a good arm workout or if you are a fan of her serpentine-link stylization.
